We are zone 7B. A few of ours had some dead we had to cut back, but no big deal at all. I purchased this weigela in early May last year and it was a tiny little thing when it arrived and I was worried. However, it almost tripled in size during the summer and gave me fresh blooms in the Fall. Unfortunately, I'm looking at it now in the Spring almost a year later and it's dead.
All of the stems have no green inside of them when snipped. By now it should be starting to swell with blooms for the Spring. Guess it couldn't take our cold Chicago winter. Very disappointed. I have two Sonic bloom weigelas. They bloom in the spring and that is it! I have not had any blooms on them the rest of this year.
They are about 3 years old and look healthy. They are a bit in the shade. Not sure they are getting enough full sunlight. Any suggestions? Is it best to transplant in the fall or spring? I never expect plants to match photos on packaging or advertising, but I figured if these looked half as good as the photos online I'd be happy. Planted six starter quarts of these last May The plants were ordered through a third party website recommended and were in good shape with a few blooms.

All the dwarf Weigelas color up best in full sun. These shrubs require little pruning. Pruning off expired flowers in spring also stimulates more profuse rebloom later in the season.
Perhaps the best thing about these new Weigelas is that with their colorful foliage, they make great thorn-free replacements for barberries. Share story.
